Starting a business before 25 – a few lessons for a young entrepreneur

Milena Duric Experience

You are less than 25 years old and you think you cannot handle all the experienced business people in the entrepreneurial world? Don’t worry, here are a few tips from Casper Ravn-Sørensen on how to deal with starting your own business before being 25.

The right group of people

In order to make a successful business, you have to realize first that you cannot do everything yourself. You need a group of people who will not only support you and your idea. You need people who will support each other and believe in the idea you have presented. Just look around you and think:

  • Who is the person who believes in me?
  • Who has enough knowledge but is willing to share it with others?
  • Who is able to complement my skills?

As Casper Ravn-Sørensen would say:

You must understand that your own capabilities are not enough. You have to find those people that will complement your skills. A long-term business requires a strong team with the same passion for work. People that are self-driven and ambitious to work on achieving the dreams. Building up a team that will complement and motivate each other, and push each other hard in achieving settled goals. I believe in building up that company culture, the team and I believe in keeping them motivated is makes this path to success the best one. Of course, the feeling of

accomplishment and each result you bring to the company has its own impact as well.

It’s perfectly fine to be rejected

Moreover, it is a great thing! You should consider a rejection (from an investor) as a gift. And you should work upon that gift. Consider the words being directed to you as the most important in your business’ life journey. You should realize what those people that said “no” actually wanted to say, and you should see how you can better your idea of a project. Successful entrepreneurs look closely to the “no” they have got and they do not cry over the spilled milk.

But you should consider just the quality of the “no’s”, not the quantity, because if you look just at the quantity of rejections, maybe it is time to reconsider the whole idea, right?

Easy marketing strategy

If you are just starting a business without much experience in all the possible marketing strategies, just choose the easiest and cheapest ones!

You can try out affiliate marketing, as an easiest way to get to the desired market, various social media channels (Facebook or Instagram), or just use Buzz marketing or Word-of-Mouth strategies. It is not hard to learn and develop those strategies in your own, unique way.

Choose one goal and stick to it

You won’t do anything if you are constantly changing your goal. You will be confused and you will make your team members and co-workers feel confused as well. What you should do is reconsider all the advantages and disadvantages of your idea, and set a clear goal ahead of you. Then you should talk with your team members and listen to their advises seriously before you start prejudicing. Implement what you consider is crucial, and think over things that you do not consider important a few times. As a young entrepreneur, you have to be willing to learn from anyone!

And you shouldn’t be ashamed or afraid of asking the questions like:

  • I do not know this, could you teach me?
  • Could you tell me more about this topic for I am not informed well?

You should be ready to ask those questions to your elder colleagues, as well as your younger co-workers. Do not be afraid of taking the knowledge from various sides. It just shows how ready you are to learn.

Keep the curiosity in your team flowing

You should let your team members be as curious as they can. It is only in that way that your product and service will further develop and flourish into something beautiful. It is not just children that have that curiosity about life. Your team members and you should have it in order to understand your market better and in order to keep yourself interested in your consumers.

  • What are the new ways of doing this or that?
  • What would be the next interesting thing that our customer would think of?
  • Can we find the new, unique marketing strategy to get the new consumers interested in our service?

Let yourself and your colleagues “play” on the workplace so that you could together find new points of view and new solutions to the problems.

Have patience!

Considering you are a young entrepreneur-to-be, you are full of that drive, desire and ambition. But don’t forget to be patient as well! That is the only difference between you and your older colleagues that are entrepreneurs. They have the life experience that has made them patient and in some cases slower. They think about everything twice whilst you want it all and you want it now. In order to become a successful entrepreneur, think about patience a little more than before. Give it a try!
